Granting Photos, Contacts and file access

Doppel asks for a permission the first time a tool that needs it is opened: Photos access for the photo scan, Contacts access for duplicate contacts. The file scanner uses the system document picker instead, so it never needs a standing permission.

If you tapped "Don't Allow" by mistake

Open the Settings app.
Scroll down and tap Doppel.
Turn on Photos (choose "All Photos" for the most accurate scan) and/or Contacts.

Doppel only reads what these permissions cover. It never uploads anything; see the Privacy Policy for details.

How the photo scan works

Tap Similar, duplicate & blurry photos, then Scan Photos. Doppel fingerprints every photo on your device to find exact copies, which are free to review and delete. Photos stored only in iCloud (not downloaded to your device) are skipped rather than fetched, so a scan on a device with a small local cache may find fewer matches than one with Photos set to keep originals.

Doppel Pro unlocks the Similar and Blurry tabs, which use on-device image matching to catch bursts, re-saves and edited versions that exact-copy detection misses, and to flag out-of-focus shots. Nothing in either tab is pre-selected for you.

The scan seems stuck

A large library takes longer, especially the first time. If it genuinely doesn't finish, force-quit and reopen Doppel and try again; if it keeps happening, get in touch below with your device model and how many photos are in your library.

Duplicate contacts and backups

Doppel Pro finds likely duplicates by shared phone number, email or name, and shows you each group before you act. Before merging anything, Doppel writes a vCard backup of the affected contacts to Doppel's folder in the Files app, so a merge can always be undone by hand.

Restoring a backup

Open the Files app and locate the Doppel backup (under On My iPhone/iPad > Doppel).
Tap the .vcf file for the merge you want to undo.
Choose Add All Contacts when prompted.

The file scanner

Doppel Pro's file scanner looks for byte-identical duplicates inside a folder you choose with the document picker, including folders in iCloud Drive. It only reads what's inside the folder you pick and forgets access once you leave the tool, so you'll be asked to choose again on your next scan of a different folder.

Clean & Share shows what a photo or video reveals — location, timestamps, device details, captions and more — and lets you remove some or all of it before you share a clean copy. Your original is never changed.

Using it from other apps

With Doppel Pro, open the share sheet on a photo or video anywhere in iOS (Photos, Files, Messages and so on) and choose Clean with Doppel. If it doesn't appear, tap More at the end of the share sheet's app row and turn it on.

Without Pro, Clean & Share still works for one item at a time from inside the Doppel app; batches and the share extension are part of Pro.

Doppel Pro: buying and restoring

Doppel Pro is a single one-time purchase of $5.99 (or your local equivalent) — not a subscription, and there's no trial that converts automatically.

Restoring your purchase

If you reinstall Doppel or set up a new device, open the paywall from any locked tool and tap Restore Purchases. Doppel will check your App Store account and unlock Pro again if you've already bought it, at no extra cost.

Family Sharing

Doppel Pro supports Family Sharing. If it's enabled on your Apple ID, family members can use Pro without buying it separately.
